About The Festival

Join us for the 43rd Annual Nikkei Matsuri (Japanese American Festival) in one of the nation’s last remaining Japantowns here in San Jose.  Embrace the local community’s love and appreciation for Japanese-American food, art & culture.

Live entertainment on two stages will be featured throughout the day as well as cultural displays showcasing the traditional arts from Japan. There is something for the entire family at this years Nikkei Matsuri!

History of Nikkei Matsuri in San Jose

In 1976, as part of America's Bicentennial celebration, the City of San Jose encouraged local ethnic communities to sponsor festivals to share their culture.  The Japanese-American community responded with a successful festival which is now, the Nikkei Matsuri inSan Jose Japantown.
