Nikkei Matsuri Festival

April 24 - May 9, 2021

The Nikkei Matsuri Planning Committee is excited to announce Celebrating Nikkei Matsuri—a virtual festival showcasing our Japanese American culture and its contributions to the cultural fabric of Silicon Valley.

This year, given ongoing concerns about Covid-19, Celebrating Nikkei Matsuri will be hosted virtually on our website instead of taking place in the heart of historic San Jose Japantown. We hope that by going virtual, you will be able to celebrate with us safely from your own home!

We are looking forward to when we can all return to celebrating our Nikkei Matsuri Festival in person on Jackson and Fifth Street. Until then be safe, stay healthy, and get ready for Celebrating Nikkei Matsuri this spring!

History of Nikkei Matsuri in San Jose

In 1976, as part of America's Bicentennial celebration, the City of San Jose encouraged local ethnic communities to sponsor festivals to share their culture.  The Japanese-American community responded with a successful festival which is now, the Nikkei Matsuri inSan Jose Japantown.
